Notes for DESIRE LOETE:


He moved to Adegem 4 May 1897, then back to Eeklo 19 April 1899, then to the United States 22 April 1899. Lived in Hampton, Illinois from 1909-1916, then moved to Moline, Illinois.


He came to the United States on the ship Friesland, sailing from Antwerp April 22, 1899. Contact in U.S. was Peter Driessens, his brother in law. He worked as a furnace tender at the Union Malleable until 1909 when he moved to Hampton where he operated a farm until 1916. He then returned to Moline and worked as a caretaker in Stephen's Park. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church.


1920 census, Rock Island County, Illinois, says they were naturalized in 1905.

DESIRE. Gedaan in de tegenwoordigheid van de genaamde


Leonardus De Prest, oud vier en vijftig jaren en van Josephus De


Prest, oud een en vijftig jaren, beide klompmakers te Adegem


kenissen, geen maagschap van het kind als aanzoekte getuigen.


Na voorlezing hebben de komparanten verklaard niet te kunnen


tekenen bij onkunde; dus hebben wij beampte deze akt getekend.

Obituary Desire Loete, 544 fifteenth avenue, Moline,


died at his home at noon today following a two years' illness. The decedent was born in Belgium Oct. 20, 1868 and married Sylvia Vyncke in Belgium Jan. 16, 1894. The couple came to Moline five years later. After residing in Moline for several


years they moved to East Moline.


Mr. Loete was employed as a furnace tender at the Union Malleable until 1909 when he moved to Hampton where he operated a farm until 1916. he returned to Moline and recently had been employed as a caretaker in Stephen's park.


Mr. Loete was a member of Sacred Heart church.


Surviving are four sons, Emil, August, Frank and Albert; two daughters, Mrs. Camiel Wambeke and Mrs. Ralph Scott, all of Moline; three brothers, Alois of St. Charles, Ill., Camiel of East Moline and Edwad in Belgium. there are nine grandchildren. A son and a daughter preceded him in death. The body was taken to the DeRoo funeral home, Moline.
