Henk Zeinstra (geb.1939): "Maria haar achternaam zou eigenlijk 'Muiselaar' moeten zijn, zij is afkomstig van Gaasterland. In deze niet-katholieke familie zat een onderwijzer en een zilversmid. Gorter is de beroepsnaam van een voorvader uit Stavoren. Mogelijk was haar biologische vader "Poppe Damhuis", afkomstig uit Workum. Daar zou de oudste zoon van Auke en Maria, Poppe, dan naar vernoemd zijn. Maria was o.a. eigenaresse van het pand "Noord 44 te Franeker" (later barbierszaak/kapsalon). Na het overlijden van Auke Piers IJsselmuiden trouwde Maria met Johannes Cornelis Ettema, van wie wordt verteld dat hij een wegenbouwbedrijf begon met het geld van de familie IJsselmuiden".
