Notes about Franciscus Johannes Philippus

In het adresboek van Rotterdam is in 1866 sprake van F. F. J. Philippus, vleeschhouwer, Penssteeg 8 te Rotterdam. Op hetzelfde adres staan ingeschreven: J. Philippus, pianomaker, en weduwe G. Philippus. Klaarblijkelijk woont hij daar samen met zijn broer Johannes en zijn moeder Johanna Philippus-Lindenhof, de weduwe van Giliam Philippus.

In 1869 is er in het adresboek van Rotterdam een vermelding van F. J. Philippus. Hij heeft dan een slagerij, gevestigd Lijnbaanslaan 15 te Rotterdam. In 1878 blijkt de zaak verhuisd te zijn naar de Binnenweg 68 te Rotterdam. In 1887 blijkt op dat adres zijn zoon M. Philippus te zijn ingeschreven. Vreemd genoeg verdwijnt in 1890 deze inschrijving weer, en staat de slagerij weer een paar jaren alleen op naam van F. J. Philippus. Wellicht is er sprake geweest van een strijd tussen de twee broers, want in 1895 staan de volgende vermeldingen in het adresboek: M. Philippus, vleeschhouwer, Nieuwe Binnenweg 409; F. J. Philippus, vleeschouwer, Noordsingel 184, vleeschhouwerij, Binnenweg 66; G. Philippus, vleeschhouwer, Binnenweg 66.  In 1903 staan M. en G. M. Philippus vermeld als firmanten bij F. J. Philippus, vleeschhouwerij Binnenweg 66. Ook valt op dat het nu gaat om nummer 66, i.p.v. 68; in latere adresboeken is weer sprake van Bnnenweg 68. In een advertentie in het Rotterdamsch Nieuwsblad  12-6-1899 wordt gevraagd een flinke halfwas, in persoon te melden op Binnenweg 66. Waarschijnlijk was de slagerij dus op de nummers 66-68 gevestigd.

In 1904 staat als particulier adres voor F. J. Philippus vermeld Boezemsingel 32 te Rotterdam. In 1912 is hij verhuisd naar de Oudedijk 269 te Rotterdam.

Op de Binnenweg blijft heel lang een Philippus slagerij gevestigd. Mijn moeder heeft me verteld dat in 1940, er mariniers voor de slagerij in het portiek lagen, en dat ze die stukken worst is gaan brengen. Met het bombardement van Rotterdam is de slagerij op de Binnenweg verloren gegaan, mijn vader schijnt van een afstand gezien te hebben hoe de zaak is ingestort.
