The outpost, Baas Harmens Craal, was situated north of the Sand Valleij (now Sandvlei), where the ground was muddy and filled with reeds.
Baas Harmens Craal was situated on the Keyser River, east of the farmhouse, Zwaanswijk, and the wagon road – today’s Main Road – between Cape Town and Muijsenburg passed close by the outpost.
The Batavian government transferred a portion of Baas Harmens Craal in 1805 to the English agriculturalist W Duckitt as an experimental farm.
This farm was sold to TF Dreijer in 1831 and became known as Dreijersdal which was in the vicinity of present day Dreyersdal Road.
