De sterfdatum staat op zijn grafsteen, links van de kerk van Vierhuizen. Volgens "Vier eeuwen Boykema" geboren circa 1630. Jan was landdagcomparant der Ommelanden voor Vierhuizen in de jaren 1683, 1687, 1689, 1691, 1693, 1695. Hij had een volmacht. Hij was waarschijnlijk een zoon van Rijke (Hindriks) Boijkema, die voor hem landbouwer was op "Beusum" en voorkomend in een dijkrol 444. Vreemd is dat zijn naam Hindrik in het nageslacht van Jan en Courtje niet weer voorkomt.
