hij werd door belijdenis op 4-4-1665 lidmaat van de geref. kerk van Steenbergen.

Hij werd in de polder van De Heen geboren als zoon van Meerten Leendertszn. van Driel en Janneken Claesdr. Vosberch (zie 2.5). Op 27-9-1643 werd hij in Steenbergen gereformeerd gedoopt met als getuigen: Hendrick Hendricksen, Adam N.N. [vermoedelijk Soetens], Joan N.N. en juffrouw Verhouven. Hij werd door belijdenis op 4-4-1665 lidmaat van de geref. kerk van Steenbergen;
Hij werd landbouwer in Fijnaart en Heijningen en fungeerde daar ook als burgemeester, vermoedelijk als opvolger van zijn schoonvader. In Fijnaart werd hij soms Johan van Driel genoemd. Hij overleed vermoedelijk in 1679.
Als jonge man uit De Heen ondertrouwde hij op 21-8-1666 in Dinteloord met Maria (Marike) Franken, jonge dochter, geboren in Dinteloord ca. 1647, dochter van Cornelis Franken (Francken) (landbouwer in Dinteloord en later in Fijnaart) en diens eerste echtgenote Adriaentje Woutersdr. Verheij. Het huwelijk werd in Gastel bevestigd op 20-9-1666. Maria hertrouwde in Fijnaart en Heijningen op 19-4-1680 (omschreven als weduwe van burgemeester Johan van Driel) met Claes Robbrechtse van Dubbeldam, weduwnaar van Lijntijen Cornelis.
