De appel Doeke Martens is van oorsprong een Fries ras. Waarschijnlijk komt de naam van Doeke van Martena die in de zestiende eeuw een man van aanzien was in Friesland.
Lange tijd is gedacht dat de Doeke Martens appel verdwenen was, door het verdwijnen van de hoogstam boomgaarden in Friesland. In 1999 werd de boom weer op de kaart gezet door Jaap Kramer te Wiechem, die twee Doeke Martens bomen op zijn erf heeft staan, een oude en een nieuw geënt exemplaar.
De Doeke Martens geeft vrij kleine onopvallende appeltjes. Ze zijn eind september plukrijp. Het zijn meer hand dan moes appels. Het vruchtvlees is zacht en friszuur van smaak. Zo van de boom zijn ze heerlijk sappig. Door het bewaren worden ze wat droger. Eigenlijk zijn ze maar tot twee maanden na de pluk lekker
