Jun 14, 1838, at Union, Conn.; she was educated at Mt. Holyoke Seminary; m. Rev. George Curtiss, Jan 13, 1846. He was the son of Rev. Samuel Ives and Rebecca (Tuttle) Curtiss, and was b. Jan 5, 1837, at East Hampton, Conn. When he was three years old his father moved to Union, Conn., and became pastor of the Congregational Church there, continuing in that office for thirty-five years, from 1840 to 1875. He died there March 26, 1880. George Curtiss graduated from Amherst college in 1860 and pursued his theological studies at the East Windsor Seminary and the Andover Seminary. He held pastorates at East Avon, Harwinton, Union, and Hartford, Conn., and at Mayville, N.D. He acted once more as pastor of the church at Union in 1903-4, and is now assistant pastor at Kent, Conn.
Elvira C. Curtiss died at Harwinton April 17, 1875. She was a very estimable woman, greatly beloved in all the places where she lived, and ideal mother, and an invaluable helpmate to her husband. After her death Mr. Curtiss married again, Mrs. Phebe M. Bishop of New Haven. March 8, 1877; she d. at Amherst, Hampshire County, Massachusetts ss., June 27, 1877. He married 3d, Martha A. Blakely of Bristol, Conn., Sep 15, 1880. she d. at Hartford, Dec 24, 1888, and was buried at Amherst, Hampshire County, Massachusetts ss., where all the other deceased members of the family are buried."
Mr. Curtiss received the degree of D.D. from Fargo College in 1899.
