Notes about Johannes Biesbroek

John Biesbrock, 83, who lived in the Hawarden vicinity 29 years, died Wednesday, February 24, at Tampa, Florida following a stroke, which he suffered Saturday of the previous week. Nick Biesbrock of Grand Rapids, Michigan, his son, flew to Tampa when the family was advised of the serious illness of their father. Mr. Biesbrock, who lived at Grand Rapids, went to Florida last October to spend the winter. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon in the Barnard Funeral Home withi Rev. Bert Vande Brink officiating. Miss Anna De Bruin sang "Nearer my God to Thee" and "Abide with Me". Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery. He was born December 19, 1872 in Holland and came to the United States in 1908, locating first at Rock Valley. Later he went to Sioux Center and then came to Hawarden. He married Wilimina Hyndyke, in Novebmer of 1896. To this union were born nine children. His wife and four sons preceded him in death. When he lived here he became a member of the Christian Reformed Church. While in the Hawarden vicinity he was engaged in farming in Eagle and Washington Townships. He is survived by four sons, Nick, William, Andrew and Jake all of Grand Rapids, and one daughter, Mrs. Helen Bedford of Sioux City. Mr. and Mrs. Jake Biesbrock, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Biesbrock, William and Nick Biesbrock of Grand Rapids and Mrs. Bedford of Sioux City were here for the funeral.
