Gerrit Schaap verhuisd op 13/9/1906 naar Zaandam. Hij stapt ook uit de doopsgezinde kerk en wordt alsnog lid van de gereformeerde kerk. Ook zijn broer Jan verlaat de doopsgezinde kerk. Op diezelfde datum wordt ook hij uitgeschreven naar Zaandam.
Beide broers keren op 26/2/1908 vanuit Zaandam terug naar Den Ilp. Ze blijken beiden "knecht" te zijn. Gerrit blijft hierna in Den Ilp wonen en trok in bij zijn zus Etje, getrouwd met Cornelis Knegt. In trouwde hij te Ilpendam met de Ilpse Neeltje Bosschieter.
Het echtpaar Schaap-Bosschieter woonde vanaf 15/6/1912 aan Gouwe nr 89 in Den Ilp, inwonend bij Gerrit´s zuster Etje Schaap. Aan het einde van dat jaar trekt nichtje Sijtje Schaap, afkomstig uit Westzaan bij hen. Sijtje is dan 10 jaar oud.
