2 CONC vader Willem I op. Hij breidde zijn gebied uit met het Land vanAltena. Hoewel hij verschillende keren twistte met de Utrechtse bisschopOtto
2 CONC van Lippe, stond hij deze toch bij in zijn strijd tegen de Drenten(1227). Floris' ridderlijke allure deed hem deelnemen aan de 'kruistocht'tegen
2 CONC de Stedingers in het Elbegebied (1234). Naar algemeen wordtaangenomen is Floris in een Frans toernooi gedood. Floris was gehuwd
2 CONC metMachteld van Brabant.

Floris IV, Count of Holland 1222-1234, born 24 June 1210, killed byjousting 19
2 CONC July 1234 Noyon or Corbie; son of Willem I and Aleida ofGelre; before 6 December 1224 he married Machteld of Brabant and theybecame the
2 CONC parents of five children.

During his minority, a second cousin, Baudouin, Count of Bentheim, actedas
2 CONC regent. Floris IV added Altena to Holland and, in 1234, participatedin the attack on the Stedingers. In the same year he was accidentallykilled
2 CONC while jousting in France. His son and successor, Willem II, waselected to become Holy Roman Emperor, but was killed in a minor battleagainst
2 CONC the West-Friesians.
