Weir, William (Scotty)

Services for William "Scotty" Weir, of Litchfield, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Christian Church of Litchfield with Steve Revisky, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Meinschein Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the building fund of the church. Mr. Weir died Tuesday, September 29, 1998, in St. Francis Hospital. He was 80 years old on May 16, and an Army veteran of World War II. He worked at Roller Derby and Echlin in Litchfield before he retired. Prior to that he worked for Brown Shoe Company for 27 years. During the war his overseas service was in Italy. He was a member of the Christian Church of Litchfield and an active member of Calico Twirlers Dance Club. He was born in Granite City, a son of William and Mary Elizabeth Smith Weir. He married Wilma Neoma File on April 25, 1943, in the Union Avenue Christian Church of Litchfield. She survives. Surviving also are sons, Joseph Scott Weir and wife Linda of Dallas, Texas, Robert George Weir and wife Laura of Louisville, Ky.; a daughter, Sharon Lynn Williams and husband Larry of Allegan, Mich.; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Tinsman and husband Allen of Litchfield; 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a daughter, Tonya Joyce Jacobs; brother, Marvin Allen Weir; sisters, Mildred Leath Brown and Frances Thompson. Services for William "Scotty" Weir, of Litchfield, were held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Christian Church of Litchfield. Steve Revisky, pastor, officiated. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery. Two of his grandchildren played a part in the services. Patricia Williams performed the trumpet solos "These Hands" and "How Great Thou Art." At graveside she played "Taps" while Tyler Weir, a Boy Scout, stood at attention. Kathleen Chandler led the congregation in singing "Does Jesus Care." Gail Felts was the pianist. Pallbearers were Larry Tucker, Charles Brown, Loyd Nail, Bill Matthis, Bob Smith and Steve Miller. Mr. Weir, 80, died Tuesday, September 29, in St. Francis Hospital.
