Lewis "Coach" Spano, 78, of Stamford, CT died suddenly at his Florida residence in Delray Beach, FL on February 15, 2015. He leaves the apple of his eye and wife of 47 years, Barbara Schoen-Spano.
He was born in the Bronx on July 18, 1936 to the late Frank and Anne Spano. He would spend the first part of his life in the Bronx, working as a Physical Education Teacher for Evander Childs High School for 30 years. During that same time, he also coached the school's football, basketball, and baseball teams. After retiring he would continue his coaching career at both Trinity Catholic High School, and for many years in the Stamford Babe Ruth League. He loved to read and golf, but most of all, he loved watching his grandchildren play sports.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Linda Spano and Deborah Spano-Kellner, both of Stamford, a son David Spano and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Franco-Spano of East Haven and four grandchildren, Kiersten and Alexa Kellner of Stamford and Tyler and Ryan Spano of East Haven. He was also survived by his former son-in-law Robert Kellner.
Funeral services will be held at the Leo P. Gallagher and Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford, CT at 1 pm on Friday, February 20, 2015, followed by burial at the Temple Beth El Cemetery,350 Roxbury Rd, Stamford.
