Biagio Blaise Frank De Leo was born in the Flatbush Section of Brooklyn, N.Y. 644 Lincoln Road, Brooklyn,

Frank joined the Naval Reserve during World War II and served aboard the Battleship U.S.S. Texas, BB-35. The Texas served in the Atlantic during the Neutrality Patrol Period. When war broke out Frank and the TEXAS helped with the protection of convoys to England. Next came bombardment of North Africa. Throughout 1943 it was convoy duty to England & Panama with a Task Group with a Light Aircraft Carrier and Destroyers. On June 6th, 1944, The Texas with Frank bombarded the shores of Normandy. It was in this battle that the enemy shell slammed into her Fire-Control Tower killing the Helmsman and nearly everyone around him. The Captain miraculously escaped. Another huge enemy armor piercing shell crashed into the Port Bow but failed to explode. It was during this engagement that Frank received his Purple Heart for wounds due to enemy action. He didn't inform his parents to keep them from worrying. The Texas received 65 near misses from the enemy 240 mm guns in three hours. When at 1500 by orders to the effect, Texas retired. She received repairs in Plymouth, England and off to the Invasion of Southern France for her third Bombardment Mission. For a short period in New York for repairs she went through the Panama Canal to Hawaii. She again went to the final phases of the Battle for the philippines and her last was the Battle for Okinawa. Texas and our Frankie received 5 Battle stars however the Texas was really involved in TEN Battles in World War II. Frank was discharged on November 30, 1945. The Texas now stands as a Memorial at San Jacinto Battle Field just south of Houston Texas.
