Peter De Young died at a very young age on April 23, 1928 at his home. He was only 33 years old. He and Kate Riemersma were married in the old Riemersma farm home. They had a double wedding as one of Kates brothers, Nick and Marie were also married that same day. Peter and Kate bought a farm on the county line road in the Lucas area where all four of their children were born. They lived there until Peter died just nine years later. He died from congestion in this lungs, similar to pneumonia. They didnt have the medications back then that we have today. The funeral was held in the Lucas Christian Reformed Church with Rev. J. C. Schaap officiating and he was buried in the Lucas cemetery. Those were sad days for the family. The children would see their mother looking so sad and crying. Here she was with four little ones. The oldest, Nellie, was only eight years old. And they had this farm to think about also. The family stayed on the farm for one year and then sold it to Wijbren Heeringa who Jacob Heeringa had sponsored from the Netherlands. They came with three boys, George, Jess, and Peter and later they had a baby girl, Sadie who now lives in Washington.

Kate worked as a midwife for a few years as the children were growing up and later worked in a factory in Cadillac until she married Dirk Bloem on November 19, 1943. Dirk died July 27, 1988 of congestive heart failure. Kate died on February 3, 1981 of a stroke at 82 years of age.
