Pieter Sjoerd Heeringa and his wife Jantje lived on the Bijekoer, which was a little hill just outside the village of Oostrum in Friesland, in the Netherlands. Here they had their children. Pieter was a farm laborer. When they got older they went to the village of Oostrum where they had a small shop. In the Netherlands since the time of Napoleon in 1811, the custom was to marry first in the town hall for the law and thin in their church. Pieter and his wife Jantje went to the Reformed Church in Oostrum. This is no doubt where they were married. He and his wife were both orphans.
