Notes about Anna Boxum


She was born in March 1884 as Annigje Boxum on the Kuinderdijk in the neighborhoodship Baarlo in the municipality Ambt Vollenhove, province Overijssel, Netherlands. Her parents are Albert Boxum, farmer, and Marrigje ten Napel. Source: scan birthakte.
On October 10, 1895 she arrived as Ane, 11 year aged, with her parents and six siblings on the ship The Majestic from Liverpool at Ellis Island, New York. Their destination is Cawker City in Kansas.
Anna married February 12, 1908 at Downs, Kansas, to Harry Voetberg. They got 10 children and lived in the Rock Valley area, Sioux County, Iowa nearly 45 years. She died at the Sioux Center hospital.

There is some confusion between Anna and Annigje. At time of immigration in 1895, Anna (Ane in ship manifest) was 11 (born ca. 1884) and Annigje was 9 (born ca 1886), the last two of seven children to immigrate together. The 1900 census shows Anna as 16 years old, born March 1884, but Annigje is missing (would have been about 14), so either was married (unlikely) or died before 1900.
