Volgens het bevolkingsregister van Barneveld 1827 woonde hij op huisnummer 230 bij Gerrit v.d.Kleef, stoelenmaker. Jacob was aanvankelijk dagloner/boerenknecht en woonde tussen 1835 en 1839 in de Glind. Van 1841 tot 1843 woonde hij in het buurtschap Kallenbroek en van januari 1844 tot januari 1848 in Lunteren (Ld 1), van jan. 1848 tot november 1857 in Lunteren (Ld 2) en vanaf november 1857 in Barneveld 82a (=Klein Lunteren).
