Notitie van Dirk Kuiper in 1966: "Moeders moederoverleed terwijl moeder nog naar school ging en reeds voor en na schooltijd moest de melk worden bezorgd langs vele huizen. Nadien werd het schoolgaan beperkt door dat de arbeid die Grootmoeder Alida Cornelia Dorgeloos verrichte door moeder Hilje Dijkema gedaan en geleerd moest worden. Koeien melken met vader Grootvader Dijkema. Koeien langs de dijk naar ...erdum graasden moeste opgezocht worden en gemolken, soms in de herfst overviel hen de duisternis en moesten ze naar elkander zoeken, daar de met melk gevulde emmers over een smalle sloot met een plank erover gedragen worden, wat Opa in 't begin na Oma's sterven niet aan kinderen mocht overlaten gezien het kostbaar gewonnen melk dat voor 5 en 6 cent de liter bezorgd moest worden.
Als gezinshulp dienstbode van Ds Bos in gerf pastorie moest hard gewerkt worden, maar Onzen God zorgde voor onzichtbare krachten."
