Stephen Post was born on 17 Oct 1596 in Hollingbourne, Kent, England. He became a carpenter.

Marriage banns between Stephen and Eleanor Langley Panton were published on 17 Oct 1625 in Hollingbourne. They had four children born in England. Their son Abraham, our ancestor, was born in USA.

They emigrated to America in the ship "Griffin," arriving in Boston, Massachusetts, September 4, 1633. They were members of the congregation which the Rev. Mr. Hooker led through the wilderness in June, 1635, to found the colony, afterward called Connecticut. In 1642,Stephen was a constable in Hartford. Stephen’s name is inscribed on the monument in the old burying ground of the Center Church, erected by the citizens of Hartford in memory of the founders of that city.

They subsequently moved to Saybrook, CT, where Stephen purchased his first land in Oyster River in 1648. Stephen Post helped build the original fort at Old Saybrooke.

From Book 3 Page 381 of Saybrook Land Records:

Its agreed this 12th day of August 1651 between Stephen POST ye one partie & John LAY ye other

partie as followeth, The said John LAY Doth by these presents make over to said Stephen POST all his lands at Pochuge viz fifty four acres of upland with ye meadows & Commonage there unto belonging & such a proportion of meadow as belongs to a hundred pound right for which ye said Stephen POST is to pay fifty pounds in well conditioned Country pay to Mr. HOPKINS or his assigns for John LAY & to take of ye rate for an hundred pound Estate & this payment to be made between the date hereof & ye 19th of September in the next year.

The Lands of Stephen Post his house and home lott in the towne abutting east north and south to the

Highway and west to the land of Simon HUNTINGTON

2. Ack in the Calves pasture abutting south to the land of Robert PARGO west to the highway north to

Richard TVOSLAND.

3. 3 Ack and half of meadow in the planting field abutting east to the Cove South to Richard TVOSLAND north to John BUSHNELL.

4. 7 Ack of upland at penny wise abutting east to the land of John CLARKE west to the ox pasture north

to the highway.

5. 5 ack of meadow more or less at south end of the said upland abutting east to the meadow of John

CLARKE's and west to the ox pasture

6. the Comonage in the towne Comons belonging to the estate of one hundred and fifty pound.

Stephen died on 16 Aug 1659 in Oyster River Quarter, Saybrook, Connecticut at the age of 63.

The Estate inventory was £442-03-06. Taken ye last of August, 1659, by John CLARKE, Thomas
