Notes about Leonard RANGER

1881 aged 1, living at Fawkes Common Road, Riverhill, Sevenoaks with parents, Henry Thomas and Ann Ranger, and three siblings.

1891 aged 11, living at 5 Riverhill Cottages, Sevenoaks with parents, Henry T and Ann Ranger, and siblings.

1901 aged 21, single, living at Riverhill Cottages, Sevenoaks Weald with his parents, Henry and Ann Ranger, and sister Gertrude.

1911 aged 31, living at Riverhill Cottages, Sevenoaks with his wife, Fanny 32 and children Leonard 2 and Gertrude 1. They had been married 4 years.

1916 Enlisted Royal West Kent regiment 26 May 1916 aged 37 years 11 days. Next of kin given as Fanny Eleanor Ranger nee Garner married Sevenoaks Weald 23 February 1900, this is a mistake since he appears in the 1901 census as single. He actually married in 1906.

Leonard transferred to the Durham Light Infantry in 1916 and served in Salonika, and was discharged on 27 July 1919. In the Electoral Register of 1919 he is called "Senior" and in 1920 was living at New Cottages, Sevenoaks Weald, his wife Fanny is not listed so was presumably deceased by this time. Electoral Registers for Sevenoaks Weald - in 1918, in Division 1 (all elections) were Fannie E and Leonard Ranger, while in division 2 was Leonard Ranger (absent - naval or military voter). In spring 1919, there is a Leonard Senior at Riverhill Cottages, and, in the household of Ann & Henry T Ranger (Leonard's parents), Leonard again as absent, but with the military qualification changed to Resident. In autumn 1919, Leonard Senior is again at Riverhill Cottages, and there is a Leonard with Ernest and Margaret Ranger at New Cottages (they are also there in Spring 1920). I had assumed that Leonard Sen. was your Leonard, and that Junior was a son of Ernest & Margaret (whom we have yet to find any other trace of). However, if Fannie had left by 1919, perhaps Leonard had gone to live with his brother Ernest - but then, who was Leonard Senior? May have been living with his brother Ernest in 1937.
