1899-1902 Served in South Africa. Discharged August 25 1902. PRO: WO97/5741.

1911 aged 39, living at 50a Morshead Mansions, Maida Vale, Paddington with his wife Margaret 39. Married 14 years.

1928 and 1937 Ernest and his wife Margaret were shown as living at New Cottages River Hill, there was a Leonard Ranger also living there, possibly Ernest's Younger brother. Occupation given as farm labourer.
