JOHN DE LIMESI son of Gerardus de Limesi, born about 1155, living 1174 to 1184 in Beulega, Wirecestreser, and in Warwickshire, and in Norfolk and Suffolk (Pipe Rolls Soc. XXV, XXVI, XXXIII). After 1185, John de Limesi confirmed by charter his ancestors gifts to the Priory of Hertford, which was witnessed by Nigel prior of Hertford and his brother Alanus de Limesi (Charter Num. V, Dugd.Monast.). John de Limesi......I have given to William son of Wodard and his heirs for their service, a virgate of land in Selflehurst and in Midelmor; Aliz de Limesi wife of said John; record at Northampton (Cat.Ancient Deeds V 72).

Mentioned in 1196-7 Warwick and Leycestresira, as Johannes de Lymesye xl s. per Hugonem Bardulf, - ij milites, and in 1199-1200 Warwika, Leycestresira, as Johannes de Lymesye iiij m. per Hogonem Bardulfum, and again in 1201-12 Warewica, Leycestria as Johannes de Lymisie, ij milites (Red Bk. of the Exchequer, by Hubert Hall, 1).

Richard I, 1198-99 Warwick and Leicester shires. Robert de Harecourt renders his account. The Earl of Warwick accounts for 100 marks, for having to wife Robert de Harecourt's daughter, widow of John de Limesi. Alice, the widow of John de Limesi married 2nd Walter or Waleran, 4th Earl of Warwick, who died 1200-05. John de Limesi's estate in 1221-22 involving the barony of Limesi, was equally divided between his sister Basilia de Limesi Odingsells, and David de Lindescie of Scotland so that the question naturally arises as to the ownership of Limesi from 1213, when Hugh the son of John de Limesi died, and 1222. In 1205 a Johannes de Limesia was mentioned whose identity remains unexplained (Rot.Litt.Claus., I:17)
