Daniel Allen was and elder in the Cumberland Church and father of Rev. Carey Allen, pioneer Presbyterian minister in Kentuckey

Daniel was a devout Presbyterian, he was a member of Samuel Davie's congregation in Hanover Co; soon after Davies left VA, Daniel & his 4 brothers moved to Cumberland Co. where he was instrumental in the establishment of Guinea Church. He first married Ann Harrison & had 10 children by her. His second marriage was to Joanna Read-Hill, at Mountain View, his residence in Cumberland Co. He raised his large family, one of whom was Cary. Cary died 4 years later doing missionary work. Daniel remained in Cumberland for the rest of his life. In a letter dated March 7, 1794, he stated "I am now sixty-five years old, a planter, and never was but a little over one hundred miles from hime in my life....I feel now like I never could give up to the foolish fashions and customs of the world. I remain a stranger." He died in 1807
