GED-inline validation statistics
Genealogy Online checks all incoming GEDCOM files with the GED-inline validator (source). Users are notified when there are warnings and user-defined tags are used.
The number of warnings refers to the compliance of the GEDCOM file with the GEDCOM specification. If there are warnings, there is a good chance that the GEDCOM file is not fully understood by another family tree program or service and that there is a risk of information loss! The "User defined" value represents the number of lines in the GEDCOM file in which a so-called user-defined tag is used. Such tags are valid within GEDCOM, but the meaning of this is not laid down in the GEDCOM specification. And often these user-defined tags are not publicly documented. So if program "A" places certain information in a user-defined tag, chances are that program "B" does not know what information it is and what it should do with it. In the best case these values are included as comments, in the worst case scenario these values are ignored. So the user-defined tags also increase the risk of information loss.
