"WILLIAM CORBIN (Joseph, John, Jabez, Clement), "b. March 2, 1778; m. Sarah Mills, dau. of Samuel and Jemima (Harrington) Mills; the marriage intentions were dated Nov. 5, 1801; she was b. Sept. 24, 1782. Samuel Mills was in the battle of Bennington, and a merchant in good standing. William CORBIN lived at Champlain, N.Y., where he was an active and respected citizen. He once rode after a thief 100 miles in a single day, and camped over night within 50 yards of where the thief lay concealed. He was killed while mounting a horse on "training day," June 17, 1809, at Champlain. His widow afterwards m. Capt. John Foster of Hancock, Mass. He committed suicide at Hancock. They had two children, Eliza Foster, who m. John W. Bates, a banker of Lausingburgh, and Myron Foster."
