John was born 11 July 1729 in Killingly, Windham County, CT., the first born child of Lt. John CORBIN and his wife Martha Hosmer.
He married Abigail Cabot, 9 Feb 1761 in Killingly. They first lived in Killingly, then moved to Kinderhook, NY and then to ALbany, N.Y. where he owned a Hudson River sloop. John and Abigail had three children: Charity, Martha and Royal. He was a captain in the Revolutionary War and was present at the Battle of Bemis Heights and Burgoyne's surrender.
According to Pliny Moore's diary, "Father CORBIN died at 3 o'clock, February 11, 1802 at the age of 72." The gravestone states February 14, 1803 which is probably wrong.

Rossiter's Berkshire Regt., Aug. 13 to 20, 1777, at Bennington. (Mass. in Rev.) this John CORBIN was called "Captain," but whether he officially held that rank during the Revolution is uncertain.
