Newspaper obituary for Carl Meyer:
'CARL MEYER FUNERAL WILL BE HELD THIS AFTERNOON'
'Funeral services for Carl Meyer who passed away Tuesday evening will be held this (Thursday) afternoon at 1 o'clock, at the Salem Reformed church, with Rev. Theilken in charge. Interment will be at the local cemetery.'
'Mr. Meyer passed away a 7 o'clock Tuesday evening, after an illness of several weeks. On July 6th, he suffered a paralytic stroke, after which his condition steadily grew worse.'
'The deceased was born in Germany, May 5, 1857, being at the time of his death 74 years, 2 months, and 9 days old. He came to the United States in 1892, and settled in Grundy county [Iowa], where he remained until about 1900. LittleRock people first made his acquaintance when he was employed as a laborer on a construction project on the Rock Island railway through here. After this work was completed, Mr Meyer remained in this community and farmed north of town forabout ten years, moving to town [Little Rock, Iowa] 18 or 19 years ago. During the remaining years of his life, he worked at any task which presented itself, and his services were in great demand. He was a quiet, friendly man, courteousand obliging, and all who knew him were his friends. He never married, and at the time of his death had no near relatives in this part of the country, so the Free Lance is informed.'
