"Robert Hora Nov 22, 2004
OLIVET - Robert Keith Hora, age 74, of Olivet, SD, died Thursday evening, November 18, 2004, at Avera McKennan Hospital Hospice in Sioux Falls following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 22, 2004, at the United Methodist Church, Olivet, with Rev. Mary Lee Lint officiating. Burial will be in Wittenberg Cemetery, rural Olivet, SD.
Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, November 21, 2004, at the Aisenbrey-Kostel Funeral Home, Menno. A prayer service will be at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the United Methodist Church in Olivet. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Robert Hora was born on March 7, 1930, to Frank J. & Julia (Novak) Hora at rural Olivet, SD. Following graduation from Marion High School in 1948, he worked on a farm until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in the fall of 1951. He received his basic training at Ft. Knox, Kentucky, after which he then served in Korea from 1952-53.
Robert married Twyla Groen on April 17, 1952, at Olivet. After he returned from the service in 1953, the couple began farming in the Wittenberg community where they farmed for over 50 years until his death. Four sons were born to this couple: James, Darrell, Dale and Curtis.
Robert, better known as Bob, was a faithful member of the Olivet United Methodist Church where he served in various capacities. He especially enjoyed teaching the adult Sunday School class. Bob served on the Menno school board for four years and was a 4-H leader for 15 years. He also was a dealer for Pioneer Hi-Bred seed for 14 years. Growing sweet corn to share with others was a great joy to him.
He is survived by his wife, Twyla, of Olivet; his four sons and their spouses: James (Karla) of Parkston; Darrell (Joanne) of Menno; Dale (Peggy) of Olivet; and Curtis (Eileen) of Viborg; eight grandchildren: Justin, Megan, Jason, Eric, Joyce, Joshua, Andrew and Abby; two sisters: Agnes Gran, Irene, and Dorothy Murra, Sioux Falls; one brother, Leighton of Canistota; and many relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters: Reva Groen and infant Mary Ann; and two brothers, Vincent and Franke.
