Obituary for Minnie Saienga, provenance unknown:
"MINNIE SAIENGA
Mrs. Minnie Hesebeck Saienga, resident of the Melvin community all of her life, passed away at the Hand Hospital in Hartley, Iowa, on Tuesday, June 17 at 1:15 p. m. She had been in fairly good health until she entered the hospital with a blood clot in her foot on May 29. She seemed to be improving rapidly, but suffered a heart attack and passed away at the age of 80 years, 8 months and 10 days.
Minnie Saienga was born in Ocheyeday Township a daughter of John and Dorothea Kink Hesebeck on October 7, 1877. She was the sixth of eleven children. All her brothers and sisters have preceded her in death.
As an infant she was brought in the Lord in the Sacrement of Holy Baptism at the altar of the Lutheran Church and was a member for 54 years of the Ladies Aid. She attended the rural school of Ocheyedan Township. She was also a member of the Mission Workers and Royal Neighbors of America.
On June 21, 1908, she was joined in marriage with Jacob Saienga of Melvin. The couple was married in the parental home of the bride. Eight years ago they were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary and many relatives amid many relatives and friends. No children were born to the couple. Aunt Minnie, as she was called, was much concerned about her nieces and nephews and loved to have them with her.
Mrs. Saienga was well known in the community, having lived here on a nearby farm all her life. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers and sisters. She is survived by a host of nephews, nieces and friends.
Funeral services were held at the American Lutheran Church in Melvin on Thursday, June 19. Rev. G. R. Woodrich of Melvin officiating. The male quartet consisting of Lewis Guetschow, Ronald Schultz, Tom Graves and Merland Wackerbarth sang favorite songs with Mrs. Reinhart Riessen as organist.
Burial was made at Baker Township Cemetery. Pallbears were Dr. C. J. Primising, Ott Klatt, George Year, Wm. Riecks, Edgar Pohlman and Karl Jacobs. After the funeral refreshments were served in the church parlors for the relation."
