** Cap't George Denison is buried at the Ancient Cemetery in Hartford, CT. (see Find A Grave #11435695) His grave there reads: "Hear [sic] lies the body of Captin [sic] George Denison departed October the 23 in the 74 year of his age 1694" He also has a CENOTAPH located at Elm Grove Cemetery, in Mystic, CT, but is not buried there. The Find a Grave page #125445067 for his Cenotaph in Elm Grove Cemetery also mentions that his actual grave site is represented by the Hartford page. ... (2) in England say 1645 Ann Borodell (her identity derives from an agreement drawn up on 3 May 1662 in which George Denison names her and her brother; the text of this agreement is found in the history of Stonington with the citation to "First Book of Connecticut State Records in Hartford, Conn., page 274" [Richard Anson Wheeler, History of the Town of Stonington ... (Stonington 1900; rpt. Mystic, Connecticut, 1966), p. 337-38], but what exactly was meant by 'First Book" has not been determined). "Brother George buried his first wife in the year 1643, went into England was a soldier there above a year, was at the Battle of York or Marston Moor, where he did good service, was afterward taken prisoner, but got free and having married a second wife he returned to New England, the year before our mother died, and not long after removed himself to New London ...' George Denison (son of William), born in 1618, was married, first, in 1640, to Bridget Thompson, daughter of "John Thompson, gent., of Preston, Northamptonshire, England," whose widow Alice had come to America, and was living in Roxbury. She had in this country, besides Bridget, these three sons: John Thompson; Anthony Thompson, recorded in New Haven, Conn., in 1643, as a planter; and William Thompson, who died in New Haven in 1683. George and Bridget (Thompson) Denison had two children born in Roxbury; Sarah, born March 20, 1641, married Thomas Stanton, Jr.; Hannah, born May 20, 1643, twice married.
The wife, Bridget, died in 1643. George Denison then went to England, served under Cromwell in the army of the Parliament, won distinction, was wounded at Naseby, was nursed at the house of John Borodell, by his daughter Ann, was married to Ann, returned to Roxbury, and finally settled at Stonington, Conn. When 1st mentioned in Conn Col Records he is called 'Captain,' based upon his service and commission in England. He served on the War Commission for New London in 1653 when war threatened with the Dutch. Although 56 he served as Captain in King Philip's War 1676 in command of New London County troops and second in command of the Connecticut Army under Major Robert Treat. He was appointed Provost Marshal May 1677. He was Captain of volunteer troops against the enemy September 1689. (See Connecticut Colony Records, Vol I.) "The children of George and Ann (Borodell) Denison were as follows:

George Denison died in Hartford, October 23, 1694, while there on some special business, being 76 years old. His wife, Ann Borodell, died September 26, 1712, aged 97 years. They were both remarkable for magnificent personal appearance, and for force of mind and character. She was always called "Lady Ann." They held a foremost place in Stonington. At the time of their marriage, in 1645, she was 30 years old and he 27. He has been described as 'the Myles Standish of the settlement,' but he was a greater and more brilliant soldier than Myles Standish. He had no equal in any of the colonies, for conducting a war against the Indians, excepting, perhaps, Captain John Mason. Miss Calkills, in her history of New London, says of him: 'Our early history presents no character of bolder and more active spirit than Captain George Denison; he reminds us of the border men of Scotland.' In emergencies he was always in demand, and he was almost constantly placed in important public positions.

Per the History of Stonington, the town of New London granted Captain George Denison 200 acres of land in the Oequot-se-poos valley at Mystic in 1652, upon which he subsequently built a dwelling house 1663 wherein he and his family made their permanent and final home, known as the Oliver Denison house, and which stood a few feet West of the present (at the time the History was written - 1899) residence of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Ford.

Opinions about George vary from one extreme to the other. He is hailed as one of the finest soldiers and leaders by some. He is scourged by others who especially despised his treatment of the Indians. On 16 February 1676, under Captain George Denison, Provost Marshall of New London County, some 40 New London County volunteers with their Mohegan and Pequot ties raided the Narragansett country, killing 7 and capturing 13. On 3 March, a second punitive expedition under Captain George Denison was carried out against the Indians in Rhode Island. On 27 March, a third expedition led by Captain Denison left Norwich, returning 10 April. On this campaign, Canonchet, the Narragansett Chief was captured and brought to a council. He refused to submit to the English and when told that he must die, he replied, 'I like it well that I should die before my heart has grown soft and I have said anything unworthy of myself.' He was executed in the Indian fashion by one or two other Pequot sachems closest to his rank among his captors.
