John & all his siblings (bro. & sis.) had the middle name of John. This follows a naming convention where, originally, the children took the 1st name of their father as their last name with an added 's.' The French imposed a last namescheme more in keeping with that with which we are more familiar. The stubborn Ostfrieslanders, however, continued the tradition, it seems by employing the technique through the middle name.

"Mr. and Mrs. John Konstant
John Konstant -- and his wife-to-be, Grace Heeren, were both born in Ostfriesland, Germany, and both immigrated to the United States about the same time. Both settled near Ridott, Illinois. When Grace's family came, she was thirteen, and as her fare was paid by someone else, she worked for one year at one dollar a week to bay this back. When John was in his teens in Germany, his father lost his life in a drowing accident and it was up to John to support the family. It was extremely difficult to find work in Germany at that time, so he came to America to find greater opportunities for work.
John and Grace were married in 1891 in Ridott. They moved to George in 1891. Their home was at 111 East Harris Avenue, the location of the present Lawrence Wulf home. They owned a piece of land east of town, and every day John took histwo horses and went east along the Creamery Road to farm this land. In 1906 Mr. Konstant purchased three quarters of land in South Dakota from J. P. De Neui, the banker, and they moved.
Children in the family were Minnie (married Fred H. Stubbe); John, George, Martin, Henry, Albert, Fannie, and Mattie, all of whom left the George area; Grace (married Fred H. Stubbe after her sister Minnie died); and Harry (died as ayoung man).
Mrs. Konstant came back to George later and lived to be ninety-five years old. There is still in the possession of her family her certificate of admission to the Lyon County First Presbyterian Church signed by Rev. Henry Wortman in 1898."
