"Frankfort youth dies in accident
An 18-year old Frankfort youth died in an accident Sunday morning on K-9 northeast of Frankfort.
The body of Todd Slifer, son of Verlin Slifer and Mrilyn Roche, both of Frankfort, was found at 8:10 a.m. Monday morning about 40 feet from his car, which had gone into a creek a half mile east of the K.9-K.99 intersection, Dean Thomas, Marshall County sheriff's investigator said.
Thomas said he had spotted a broken fence at the site and was calling for assistance when Frankfort Marshal Donn Slifer drove up and said he had received a report that a car was in the creek. Don Slifer is an uncle of the youth.
Thomas said the accident appeared to have happened after the westbound vehicle went off the"

"road 237 feet from where it was found in a creek 26 feet north of the highway. A guard rail was on the north side of the highway, but the vehicle had left the road before it reached the point where the guard rail began.
After leaving the roadway, the vehicle was airborne for 58 feet across the creek, struck a tree on the west creek bank and came to rest in four feet of water, Thomas said. The creek's surface was 16 1/2 feet below the highway, he said.
Slifer apparently crawled out of the broken window on the passenger's side of his 1981 Oldsmobile Cutlass, Thomas said. It appeared he had crawled up the north side of a drainage ditch but then slipped

Slifer was reported missing to the sheriff's department at 12:34 a.m. Monday. The last time he was reportedly seen was at 4:30 a.m. Sunday at a party at a pond east of Frankfort.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Frankfort High School. Burial will be in Frankfort Cemetery. Padden Funeral Home, Frankfort, is in charge of arrangements.
Slifer was born March 31, 1971, in Olympia, Wash., and moved with his parents to Frankfort in 1973.
He was active in sports and music at Frankfort High School. He was a member of the 1988-89 Frankfort basketball team that competed in the state tournament.
After he graduated from FHS he was employed by Glenn Fox Construction of Frankfort. Before his death he was employed by Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of Marysville. He was a volunteer"
