!MARRIAGE: Glen Elder Sentinel, 24-Jan-1901:
"Boyd-Davis
Mr. John W. Boyd and Miss Mary M. Davis were married at the home of the bride's parents, J.W. and Rebecca A. Davis, two miles southwest of Glen Elder, Wednesday evening January 16 at 6 o'clock.
Mr. Davis, the bride's father has lived on the place where he now is for six
years having come from Genola, Kansas to it. The bride is the only daughter
living and is a young woman of worthy character and good qualities. She will no doubt be a splendid helpmate to young Mr. Boyd. Being prepared by education and home training she is calculated to perform in a most creditable manner the duties of the housewife. Mr. Boyd the groom is a young man of sterling worth and character. His father, Hiram Boyd, came to Kansas about 24 years ago from Des Moines, Iowa and after his marriage 23 years ago to Miss Hannah M. Cash who came from St. Joe, Missouri about the same time settled on the farm about 8 miles southwest of Glen Elder. Since the death of his father which occurred on March 30, 1900, John W. Boyd has been the main stay of his mother. He is a man of exceptional character having never tasted tobacco or liquor of any kind in his life nor formed any bad habits. He attended school in Beloit for a time and then went to the business and normal college at Salina in which he finished
the business course and a good share of the normal. He is well prepared to
assume though young the responsibilities of the husband of the home and with the splendid wife he now has will no doubt succeed well in life.
The wedding was a quiet affair there being none but the immediate relatives of the bride and groom and S. W. Brown pastor of the Christian church of Beloit the officiating minister present. Their host of friends unite in wishing them a happy and prosperous voyage through life."
