"'Uncle Jake' Davis Dead.
"Jacob Welker Davis, the youngest son of Peter and Elizabeth Davis, was born
in Bartholomew county, Indiana, August 3, 1848 and died at his home south of
Glen Elder November 17, 1916 at the age of 68 years, 3 months and 15 days. He
was united in marriage with Rebecca Ann Luckey, April 2, 1868, and to this
union four children were born, of whom one died in infancy and one at the age
of seven years. The two remaining are: Francis Marion Davis of Hoxie, Kansas
and Mary Margaret Boyd of Glen Elder, Kansas. The loving wife, son and
daughter and twelve grand-children are left to mourn the death of their loved
one. Mr. and Mrs. Davis came to Kansas in 1882 and located in Elk county where
they resided until 1892 when they moved to the farm south of town where they
have since resided. When 18 years of age he united with the M.E. church and
remained a member until death. The deceased had been in poor health for
several years and since December 10, 1914 he had been almost an invalid as the
result of a stroke of paralysis. He was a man who had many friends in this
section whose heart-felt sympathy was with him during his long illness and
suffering. He was a good neighbor, kind husband and father and exemplary
citizen.
"Funeral services were held at the Grellet church last Sunday at 11 o'clock
by Rev. Wooten and interment made in the adjoining cemetery."
"Card of Thanks.
"The firends and neighbors who assisted us so much and were so kind, during
the illness and death of our loved one, have our most sincere thanks. ---Mrs.
J.W. Davis, Mrs. John Boyd and family and Marion Davis and family."
