"JOHN OLIVER (OLLIE) DAVIS
"John Oliver (Ollie) Davis was born August 27, 1879 on the family homestead
of his parents, Mary C. and Benjamin Davis, in Walnut Creek Township near Glen
Elder, Kans. He passed away in Tempe, Ariz., on April 3, 1950 from a heart
attack which occurred while on a trip to the southern part of the state to
visit his relatives.
"Mr. Davis and his family lived on a farm in Mitchell County, Kans., until
1936 when he and his wife moved to Arizona. For the past 14 years he has lived
in Kingman, and in recent years has been employed by the Mojave County Health
Department.
"On July 30, 1902 he was united in marriage to Margaret C. Braden. The are
the parents of four sons and two daughters. One son, Forrest, died in early
childhood.
"Ollie leaves to mourn his passing: his wife, margaret of Kingman; a son,
Cecil B. Davis and a daughter, Mrs. Verma Shaeffer, both of Kingman; a son,
James Orben Davis of Chicago, Ill.; a son, Merlin L. Davis and a daughter, Mrs.
Shirley L. Tinstman, both of Kingman. He also leaves two sons-in-law and three
daughters-in-law; eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one sister,
Mrs. Luella Dickson and Grand Junction, Colo.; many nieces and nephews and a
host of friends.
"Ollie was a kind and thoughtful husband and father. He was a good neighbor
and always ready and willing to help in time of need. He leaves many friends
and relatives, both in Kansas and Arizona.
"Funeral services were conducted Friday, April 7, in St. Johns Methodist
Church in Kingman, Ariz., with Rev. Donald L. Lathrop in charge, assisted by
Rev. A. N. Milier of the Central Christian Church. Special music included a
solo by Mrs. J.J. Johnston, 'Going Down to the Valley One by One,' and a solo
by Dr. Lyle Millett, 'Going Home.' Mrs. Ellen Farley provided organ
accompaniment for the services.
"Mr. Davis was interred in Mountain View Cemetery in Kingman. Pall bearers
were Wm. Ford, Oscar Osterman, Charles Willis, Don McCraley, Roy Wicke, and
Burton Porton.
"Relatives who attended from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. James O. Davis of
Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Luella Dickson and daughters, Mrs. Iva Green and Mrs.
Violette Spitzer and Mr. Spitzer, all of Grand Junction, Colo.; Mr. Ancil
Taylor of Coolidge, Ariz.; and Marlene Davis of Tempe, Ariz."
