"Respected Citizen Dies From Heart Attack
"W.N.S. Davis, Resident for More Than Sixty Years, Died Suddenly Sunday
Morning
"The people of Glen Elder and vicinity were shocked and grieved Sunday to
learn of the sudden death of Wm. N.S. Davis which occurred that morning at his
home. Although Mr. Davis had not been as active during recent months was
apparently feeling as well as usual the past week and his death was a complete
surprise to all of his friends and relatives.
"Wm. N.S. Davis, son of Benjamin and Mary C. Davis, was born at Columbus,
Bartholomew County, Indiana, November 14, 1868 and departed this life July 17,
1932; aged sixty three years, eight months and three days.
"He moved, with his parents, to Topeka, Kansas, when a small child. From
Topeka they moved to Glen Elder in 1870; here he grew to manhood on the farm in
Walnut Creek Township where his father homesteaded. He lived in and near Glen
Elder the remainder of his life with the exception of four years spent in
Oklahoma.
"William Davis was married to Jessie B. Slaven, September 27, 1894. To this
union four children were born, namely, Mrs. Angelia Cooper, of Hoxie, Kansas;
Mrs. Mabel Herndon, Three Rivers, Michigan; and Misses Daisy and Hazel Davis,
of the home.
"He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, four children, five grandchildren,
three brothers, Emory and Oliver of Glen Elder, and Joseph Davis of Cawker
City; one sister, Mrs. Luella Dickson, of Moreland; also many other relatives
and friends.
"Funeral service was conducted by Rev. E.O. Sweany at the Christian church,
Tuesday afternoon in Glen Elder and interment made in the Grellett cemetery.
"Nephews of Mr. Davis acted as pall bearers. They included: Mark Slaven,
Max Slaven, Gail Taylor, Richard Taylor, Duane Vint and Merlin Davis."
