Notes about Dirk Hendrik (Dick) Ket

Dirk Hendrik Ket (1902-1940) Dick Ket werd geboren in Den Helder. Als hartpatiënt met fobieën leidde Dick Ket een geïsoleerd bestaan. In 1930 verhuisde hij met zijn ouders van Ede naar een zelfontworpen huis aan de (nu) Prins Berhardlaan 61 in Bennekom. Dit huis is tekenend voor Kets voorkeur voor moderne, zakelijke architectuur. Bovendien weerspiegelt de bunkerachtige bouw ook Kets neiging zich in een vesting te willen terugtrekken. De schrijfster Agnes Maas-Van der Moer (1888-1975) lukte het die vesting te openen, hij logeerde in 1936 enkele dagen bij haar op villa Antoinette (Heelsumseweg 16). Via een intensieve briefwisseling onderhield hij ook het contact met zijn verloofde Nel Schilt (1898-1994).
Tussen 1930 en 1940 schilderde hij in Bennekom zijn belangrijkste werken, vooral stillevens, die op een moeizame manier tot stand kwamen. Een aantal van zijn werken is te zien in het Museum voor Moderne Kunst in Arnhem.
Op 15 september 1940 overleed hij aan zijn hartkwaal. Hij ligt begraven tussen zijn ouders in Bennekom.
