    Oma had een grote liefhebberij: handwerken, en dan vooral haken, met DMC
    garen no. 100. Dat is het fijnste garen dat er is. Dat moest speciaal in een
    zaakje op Rotterdam Zuid worden gekocht. Niet alle winkels hadden namelijk
    zulk fijn garen. Ze heeft ook nog even frivolité en guimpewerk gedaan, maar
    haken was haar grote passie. Telkens moeilijker patronen en grotere kleden.
    Die moesten dan als ze klaar waren, eerst gewassen en gestijfseld worden en
    daarna gespannen op een houten boord. Dat boord kon opa op maat maken.
    Met spelden werd dan het hele kleed gestrekt en zo kon het drogen.
    Later kon ze niet meer van die ingewikkelde grote kleden maken.
    Ze heeft nog een serie stola’s voor alle dochters en schoondochters met
    guimpenaald gemaakt toen ze dat in Amerika had geleerd.
    Op het laatst beperkte ze zich tot het maken van sierrandjes aan zakdoekjes.
    Honderden zakdoekjes werden van een mooi randje versierd, en elke
    kleindochter kreeg zakdoekjes. Heb je al een zakdoekje gekregen? Hier neem
    die maar. Ook allerlei bezoekers kregen een zakdoekje mee. En pannelapjes,
    ongelofelijk veel pannelapjes werden in de familie verspreid.

    Dit bordje was het huwelijkskado in 1915 van opoe de Nooijer voor opa en oma, in een tijd dat die het financieel zeer krap had. Oma, daarna haar dochter Johanna, heeft dat bordje als een kostbaarheid bewaard.
