Overgenomen van NNBW: WICHERS (Jan Gerhard), geb. te Groningen 15 Juli 1745, begr. te Vreeswijk 3 Oct. 1808, zoon van Wicher Wichers en Wibbina Clara Smith, liet zich 9 Juli 1760 inschrijven als student te Groningen, waar hij 15 Juni 1768 bevorderd werd tot jur. utr. dr. op een proefschrift De tribus politicorum fundamentalibus in omni re publica caute vitandis erroribus, Machiavellismo nimirum, monarchomachismo ac hierarchismo. Hij was gouverneur van Suriname, daarna lid van den raad der amerikaansche kolonies te 's Gravenhage.
