Notes about Anna Hendrika "Annie" Meijers

Anna groeide op een in een groot gezin van 12 kinderen. In haar jeugd woonde ze achtereenvolgens in de Rozenstraat in Vaesrade, de Nieuwstraat en de St. Bavostraat in Nuth; deze laatste straat werd in de volksmond ookwel Ter Siepe genoemd. Toen Anna 17 was overleed haar vader; vanaf dat moment zorgde ze door naaiwerkzaamheden, Anna had het vakdiploma naaister behaald, mede voor het onderhoud van dit grote gezin. Na het huwelijk met Zef Gerits woonden ze aanvankelijk bij haar moeder in, maar in 1949 verhuisden ze naar de nieuwgebouwde huizen aan de Nieuwstraat (later Dwarsstraat geheten). Ook na de dood van Zef bleef Anna aanvankelijk nog in de Dwarsstraat wonen; echter in 1997 verhuisde ze naar een seniorenwoning aan de Dontusstraat in Nuth.
Anna was een bescheiden niet veel eisend mens: ze klaagde nooit, en deed alles voor haar man en kinderen; Anna was echter ook moeilijk toegankelijk en liet zelden of nooit iets van haar ware gevoelens zien. In 1995 stierf Zef, vanaf dat moment fietste Anna 8 jaar lang iedere dag naar het graf van Zef; echter begin 2003 kreeg ook Anna, net als haar man kanker, en was het voor haar niet langer mogelijk het graf te bezoeken.
