Notes about Cornilius "Cornie" Mantel

Cornie Mantel, 72, of Orange City, died Aug. 21 in the Orange City Municipal Hospital following a long illness.
Services were held at 10 a.m. August 23 in the First Reformed Church. The Rev. Mr. Perry Raak and The Rev. Mr. Frank Snuttjer officiated. Burial was in the West Lawn Cemetery under the direction of the Van Etten Funeral Home.
Mr. Mantel was born April 9, 1903, at Middleburg.
He married Gertie De Roo January 21, 1926, at Orange City. They farmed near Orange City, moved into town in 1959.
He was custodian at the Sioux County Courthouse for 15 years.
Survivors include the widow; a daughter, Mrs. Arnold (Harriet) Gorter of Worthington, Minn.; two sons, Jacob and Lester, both of Orange City; three grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Dora De Haan of Hospers, Mrs. Minnie Huisman and Mrs. Ella Vande Griend of Orange City.
