Services Held Thursday for C. Dodeward
Military funeral services, under the direction of the Pfarrer-Fox American Legion Post, were held for Cornelius Dodeward, Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in the Vander Ploeg funeral home and at 1:30 p.m. in the First Reformed church. Rev. S. T. Commenga officiated and burial was in Valley View cemetery.
Mr. Dodeward was born in Rock Valley, Aug. 2, 1892, the son of Cornelius and Maria Dodeward. He died at his home suddenly after a lingering illness, May 28, at the age of 67 years, nine months and 23 days.
He spent most of his life farming and trucking in the Rock Valley vicinity. He was a veteran of the first world war, serving his country on the battlefields of France. He was wounded in battle and was hospitalized overseas for several months. He was married to Alice Van Wyhe Wynia, Jan. 8, 1924. To this union one child was born.
Surviving are the widow; one daughter, Marian, Mrs. Paul Boom of Beaver Creek, Minn.; one stepson, John Wynia of Phoenix, Ariz.; three stepdaughters, Alvina, Mrs. Lyle Rowland of Rock Rapids, Frances, Mrs. John Ver Burg of Alvord and Dorothy, Mrs. Lawrence Larson of Sioux Falls, S.D.; four grandchildren and 19 step grandchildren.
Also surviving are one sister, Cora, Mrs. Dick Verdoorn of Rock Valley and two brothers, John of Rock Valley and Steve of Port Orchard, Wash. His parents preceded him in death.
