Helen Druvenga, age 96, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the daughter of Dick and Alice (Swygman) Oltman Sr. on December 14, 1921, on their farm in rural Butler County. Helen attended country school near her home.
On August 10, 1943, Helen was united in marriage with Henry Druvenga at the Christian Reformed Church in Parkersburg.
Helen worked alongside Henry as they farmed in the Parkersburg area for over 30 years.
In 1976, they moved into Parkersburg and became the custodians at their church.
Helen was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Parkersburg where she was active in the Ladies Aid and taught Bible School. Helen stayed very busy gardening and canning. Some of her favorite pastimes were crocheting, quilting, putting together jigsaw puzzles, ceramics and painting pictures. Helen was a very good cook and every Sunday she would prepare Sunday dinner for the family. Her potato salad was always one of the familys favorite. Helens greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Helen died Sunday, December 31, 2017, at Unity Point Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa.
Helen is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Henry on July 14, 1990; an infant daughter, Carolyn; her parents; two sisters, Trena Dreesman and Fannie Bruns; and four brothers, Ernest, Reinhart, Dicky and Ben Oltman.
Helen is survived by one son, Steve (Lana) of Gilbert, Arizona; one daughter, Sharon, (Delbert) Cordes of Parkersburg; five grandchildren, Blake (Kristin) Druvenga, Bryce (special friend, Amanda Flatjord) Druvenga, Jeremy (Christina) Cordes, Justin (Molly) Cordes and Jessica (Austin) Davis; four great grandchildren and one step-great grandchild, Taylor, Dom, Lillian, Sophia and Hannah; one sister, Jadean (Jim) Tripp of Reinbeck, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Hilda Oltman of Grundy Center, Iowa, and Frances Oltman of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and one brother-in-law, Richard Druvenga of Aplington, Iowa.
Funeral Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2018, at the Christian Reformed Church with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery, both in Parkersburg.
