Angevaare concluded that Bartelmees Foytensz was not the son of Foyken Willemsz and his wife Katrijne Dirck Woutersdr. because Bartelmees was not included in her will from 1394 (when Mees was alive). Moreover, he finds that Bartelmees could not have been the son of Foyken Boudijnsz., because while the two were related, they necessarily belonged to separate branches of the Foyken family. Bartelmees was annotated in 1395 as an aftersusterskint (in relation to the deceased), whereas the son of Foyken Boudijnsz was an aftersusterskint van een halve bedde.
(Note: Angevaare's proposed Foyken tree places Foyken Willemsz (IIIh) and Foeytgen Boudijnsz (IIIm) as second cousins, where their respective uncles are half brothers --- both sons of Foeycken Florensz van Teylingen but born to different mothers.
Instead, Angevaare therefore posits that Bartelmees was likely the son of Foyken Willemsz and another unidentified woman.
Mees was likely the (bastard) son of Foyken Willemsz and an unknown mother, possibly the daughter of Bartelmees Jansz. (van der Wateringhe), schout van Wateringen. His father was known to have lived in Oegstgeest, but as a bastard child, he may have been born elsewhere.
Mees also appears in records as Bertelmees, Bertelmeesz, Bertolomeusz, and Bartholomeus.
He was mentioned as Bertelmees Foykijns zoen, aftersusterkint in the 1395 settlement documents of Count Aelbrecht van Beyeren resolving the death of a Jan Regenboog, the servant of his half brother, Foyken Foykensz.
He married Kerstijn Claesdr. van Liere (uter Liere), the daughter of Claes Domaesz. van Liere.
They had two children, Willem Meesz,, and Margriet Ysbrantsdr.
(Angevaare has Margriet married to an Ysbrant, not as Ysbrant's daughter).
