Notes
From a letter written to my grandfather Reuben Andrews, from Olivia his mother,
dated March 2, 1909. Her husband Benjamin (Reuben's father) had just passed
away. It shows Olivia living at 1636 Amelia St., New Orleans, LA....she also
states that she went out to visit the cemetery where Benjamin is buried...Metairie
Cemetery, where the Andrews plot is located. The address is 5100
Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA.
NOTE: This information from Metairie Cemetery, noted here this day...5/19/07/ln
The Andrews plot is Section "22" Lot "3-4". Buried there are...
Benjamin Andrews Sr. 2/14/1910
Mary Robinson 12/16/1940 (daughter)
Frank Butler 12/29/1944 Susan's husband)
Susan A. Butler 2/26/1955 (daughter)
(no mention of Olivia being buried here) I am still researching this line for
additional information.
NOTE: 11/21/11-UPDATE...FOUND...Olivia's Pennsylvania Death
Certificate...according to the certificate, she died 4 January, 1911, in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It states that the burial was 6 January, 1911, in
New Orleans, Louisiana. She apparently was staying with her daughter Nell
Gazzam...the street address is 265 So. 19th St., 8th Ward, Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania. All this under the name Olivia S V Andrews...I know the V stands
for Vining, but the S? I'm contacting Metairie Cemetery again, and asking them
to take a closer look at the Andrews grave plot - since Olivia was buried in New
Orleans, I'm sure she's buried with her husband, Benjamin Andrews Sr. in the
family plot. I will note my findings as soon as possible.

Final Update..."Found at long last"...
This information from Lake Lawn "Metairie" Cemetery in New Orleans, LA.,
regarding the Andrews family plot.
"the information that I have been able to find is that the property is in Metairie
Cemetery...location Section "22" Lot "3-4"...per Metairie Cemetery main office,
who sent me the following...
Interments in that plot are...
Benjamin Andrews Sr. 2/14/1910
Olivia A. "Annie" Vining Andrews 4/1/1911 (wife) (they forgot to put her
name on the list they sent me)...
Mary Robinson 12/16/1940 (daughter)
Frank Butler 12/29/1944 (Susan's husband)
Susan A. Butler 2/26/1955 (daughter)
NOTE: I know that Olivia lived for some years after Benjamin died, and have a
Western Union telegram stating that she died in Philadelphia. I had always
assumed that she would be sent home to be interred with her husband,
Benjamin.
FOUND: A picture of the headstone at the Andrews Plot, Metairie Cemetery,
New Orleans, Louisiana - was added in 2011 by Mr. Van Bender, of Find A
Grave.com, and on that headstone it lists all the interred in the Andrews Plot,
INCLUDING Olivia, Benjamin's wife. So, she passed away in Pennsylvania, and
was returned to New Orleans to be interred with her husband Benjamin in the
family plot. Finally...an ending to the years-long search I've carried on to find
her final resting place.
Obituary
This obituary taken from a paper in Philadelphia, PA, ?, 1911. I have the copy,
but it is too old and fragile to try and handle it enough to copy it again here...I will
note what they wrote:
Died...1911...Andrews, Suddenly, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Joseph
Gazzam (Nellie), in Philadelphia, PA. On January 4th, Olivia Andrews, widow of
Benjamin Andrews.
Funeral services from the parlors of F. Johnson & Son Co., no 1527 Washington
Avenue, between Pryiania and St. Charles, this (Sunday) afternoon at 1 O'Clock.
(from the sound of this piece, it looks as though it might have been printed in a
New Orleans paper, and that she may have been brought home to be buried in
the Andrews plot there.)
11/20/11...NOTE: I show Death Certificates for BOTH Philadelphia, PA and New
Orleans, LA. - Philadelphia, PA dated 4 January, 1911, and New Orleans, LA
dated 6 January (with death noted as 4 Jan).
(personal guess here - I believe that Great GrandmotherOlivia died in
Philadelphia, PA, but was transported to New Orleans, LA for her funeral and
burial. I have the death certificates, but still no word on WHERE she was
buried.) I continue my research.
