Dr. Henry Roos, 83, long time resident of South
Windham, passed away on September 15, 2005. Henry retired as a professor at Eastern Connecticut State University. In addition to his teaching, Henry
volunteered his services to various local
organizations including serving as the Chairman of the Windham Water Pollution Control Authority, Education Officer for the Norwich Squadron of United States Power Squadron and was a member of The Connecticut Eastern Railroad Museum. As well as being a long standing member of the First Congregational Church in Willimantic he also volunteered his time to the American Red Cross. Henry served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II and continued in the Army Reserve until 1962 achieving the rank of
Master Sergeant. He received a Bachelors Degree in
Biology from the The College of the City of New York,
and masters and doctorates in Education from the
University of North Carolina and Columbia University
in New York, respectively. He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife of 50 years, Blanche Elizabeth Roos, and by a son, Robert Pieter Roos. He is survived by his son, Pieter Edward, and Daughter-in-law Luzella and by their sons Richard and Robert, by Robert's wife Shannon and great grand children Logan and Faith. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Miriam Stovekin of Bayonne, NJ and by his cousin Ludwig Hahn of Pembrook Pines, FL. Henry's family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte 195) Willimantic on Sunday, September 18th from 1:00 PM to 2:00 with his funeral service beginning at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name are suggested to the Covenant Soup Kitchen, 220 Valley St. Willimantic, CT or a local charity of your choice.
