  Johannes Raisch was boer. Vóór zijn huwelijk had hij toestemming nodig van de burgemeester van Eltingen om zijn verloofde Catharina Keck vanuit Malmsheim naar Eltingen te laten komen. Rond 18-10-1852 emigreerde hij met zijn vrouw en drie kinderen naar Amerika. Voor die reis was officieel toestemming gegeven door het koninkrijk Württemberg en de stad Eltingen betaalde de reiskosten. Ze reisden vanaf Londen met het schip "American Eagle". Onderweg werd aan boord van dit schip hun vierde kind Oceana Raisch geboren op 18-10-1852. Op 8-11-1852 kwam de "American Eagle" in New York aan.
