Emigration from Holland only became significant in the nineteenth century. Many Dutch people left for the "New World", the United States, while a small number of them traveled to Canada, Australia and New Zealand . By the absence of Dutch population registers before 1850, there are three sources available for emigrants (then called country- movers): a) Lists of country-movers. b) Passenger lists of ships entering the American and other harbors. c) Census lists, made up every ten years of the American population. The majority of these sources are available on microfiche at the Central Bureau for Genealogy.

Leendert's other son Roelof had seven sons, of which three, Willem, Harmanus and Aalt definitely had descendants. Roelof was baptized on October 2, 1712 in Hummelo. On January 20, 1737, in Steenderen, Roelof married Elske (Alice) Anderson. She was the daughter of an inn-keeper on the
Bremer in Toldijk, near Steenderen. The Steenderen Scholtens are descendants of Roelof, who moved with his wife to Eefde where they lived on the Barge farm; one of his sons was called Bargerman. Most of their children were baptized in nearby Warnsveld. In 1762 they returned to Steenderen, where they ived an easy life as indicated by her and possibly his burial in the Steenderen church. Alice was buried in the church on March 27, 1789, which was an honor for not just anyone. Roelof and Alice's daughter Johanna Helena was baptized in Steenderen on June 23, 1737. It is
believed that she died young as no trace of her was found. Willem, baptized in Steenderen on September of 1738, married Janna Lamslag (bef. 2/23/1738- 10/9/1774) on June 6, 1762, also in Steenderen. Willem and Janna had many descendants from theirchildren, Aalt, Hendrica, Jan Leendert, Janna and Roelof (all baptized in Steenderen), that still live in Brummen, Voorst and Steenderen.
Hermanus (more about him later) was born about 1741. Three more of Roelof's sons, Arent baptized in Warnsveld Feb 28, 1740, Jan baptized September 15, 1743, and Jan Berent baptized July 30, 1747, may each have had descendants, but they are still unknown. It is known that Jan Berent married Janna Lammerts and is believed to have had a son Roelof, born in Zutphen.
The last son Peter, baptized Feb 12, 1753, married Johanna Adriana ten Tusschede. They moved
to Zutphen in 1780, to stay with his older brother Hermanus, but left for Amsterdam in 1783. It is not
known if Peter had any children.
The last known child, Arentje, was baptized on May 19, 1757, when Roelof was forty two years
old.
