Hij is getrouwd met Maria W Hayden.
Zij zijn getrouwd op 10 april 1882 te Simonswolde, Ostfriesland, Germany, hij was toen 22 jaar oud.

My first information on Walter and a Mary came from a telephone interview with Gerald Stoppelmoor grandson of Walter Aeilt Stoppelmoor in 5/2002. Gerald said he has the same middle name as his father and grandfather. Gerald said he believed his grandfather, Walter was cousin to the Kaiser of Germany. According to Gerald, Tradition has it that as a young man Walter came to America from the Bavarian area of Germany to escape service with the Prussian Army in Germany in which all German males were required to serve. He worked for about six months back east, then moved to Highmore, SD because free land was being offered for homesteaders. He then sent for his wife Mary Stoner (?) in Germany. They then proceeded to homestead the land and raise their family in Highmore SD.·
· I do not believe that the above description is an accurate account of Walters life after coming to America.. Walter came to America in 1882 and Maria and daughter Harmke came in 1883,about one year later. Evidently Maria was pregnant when Walter left. They had another son Antje in 1885 in Colfax, Grundy Co., IA. Walter and Maria were living in Grundy county IA in 1895 and 5 of their children were born there at that time. Walter was in Grundy during 1895 and 1900 census also and was in Hamilton Co., IA during 1930 census.Ginny Hassebrook's records show Walter in Highmoor SD from 1910 through 1928 and sons Otto and Tim did sign up for the draft in Highmoore, Hyde Co., SD during World War I in 1917. It is probable that Walter's homestead was in Grundy Co., Iowa rather than Highmoore South Dakota as Gerald remembered it above. --(Reginald Day)

·Name actually Woltert Stapelmor and Maria Hayden per Rick Stoppelmoor 10/2003 with the help of Ostfriendland Genealogical Society of Minnesota. They provided him with photocopies of the village and church records from the OSB of the Evangelical Reformed Church in Simonswolde, Germany. The actual old country spelling of the surname is Stapelmoor and Stapelmohr. Simonswolde is located very close to the North Sea and the Netherlands border. If I'm not mistaken, Woltert Stapelmoor, b. 1860, married Maria Hayen (1882).-- This information from "Rick Stoppelmoor" . I sent Rick a disk with all Stoppelmoor info I had plus an ftw with complete ancestry info on Irene Day Stoppelmoor his grandmother. I asked him for above documentation plus missing info he might have on other Stoppelmoor's. He has not yet sent it 2/2005. Reginald Day (XXXXX@XXXX.XXX)

·My husband's (Dick Mudder) grandfather was a brother (Hinderk Wolters Stapelmoor b. Sept. 9 1848) to Walter Aielt Stapelmoor. Dick's parents came to America in 1923 and settled at George, Iowa and later at Sibley, Iowa and then moved to a farm by Hendricks, Minnesota. We went to Simonswolde, Germany in 1996 and still communicate with cousins there. They have helped me fill in the family tree on the German side. We were told that an uncle of Ettje's (Dick's Mother) had come to the US too. They also said another uncle by the name of Ayelt Tonjes came over too. Do you know anything about him? I have some information on Walter Aielt's grandparents too. I will be anxious to here from you.
